Pippin Vintage Jewelry

LIKE GRANDMA’S JEWELRY BOX, ONLY BIGGER. That is, of course, unless your grandma’s jewelry collection could be showcased in a fairly sizable store, spans more than a century and is organized by decade, style, color, material and theme. From crazy costume jewelry, to fabulous bakelite pieces, to high end collectors pieces, this little Chelsea treasure box has it all, and at really great prices—and this time I don’t even mean by New York standards. I mean they’ve got great prices by normal standards. Also check out Pippin Home next door for the same great deals on furniture and home decor!

The Family Jewels

UMM… ADORABLE. That about sums it up. The Family Jewels is for that girl who loves to dress like the classic beauties of the olden days. From 1920s flapper dresses to 1950s full flowery skirts to 1980s flamboyant sequins, the dresses are superb. While dresses reign supreme, skirts, blouses, purses, hats and jewelry nicely round out the womens’ collection. And don’t forget the heels—they’re to die for. They’ve got the most extensive collection of vintage heels I’ve ever seen. Plus, vintage swimwear that actually looks functional and wearable! That’s a first-time-find for me. This little Chelsea boutique has such great womens’ clothing that I chose not to focus on the mens’ selection, but they do have suits and accessories for men as well. The pricing can get a little steep, but you certainly get what you pay for. Unlike other vintage stores in New York that charge an arm and a leg for any old piece of cloth, here the garments are well cared for, unique and authentic.

Fluke Vintage Clothing

A LOVELY COLLECTION. Fluke offers a curated selection of sophisticated vintage clothing. Dresses, skirts, blouses and jumpsuits are organized by color and span many centuries of fashion. There are unique, funky pieces—like a sheepskin vest, and also classic pieces—like a lovely 1980s Geoffrey Beene grey mini dress. The accessories may be few, but they are fantastic. Also, the childrens’ clothing is adorable. Everything is cuter when it’s miniature!

Finderz Keeperz Vintage Boutique

A BEAUTIFUL MESS. I mean that in the best possible way. This little Harlem shop may be cluttered, but it’s filled to the brim with amazing findz—especially if you like things that are bejeweled, bedazzled and be…sequined? (if that’s not a word it should be). All the best finds are covered in shiny stuff, from mini dresses to 80s sweaters to denim jumpsuits. The best part is, everything is reasonably priced—especially those men’s blazers for $20. Another plus? It’s right next to the famous and delicious Amy Ruth’s. Might I suggest the Reverend Al Sharpton chicken and waffles. Best fried chicken and waffles. Ever.

Archangel Antiques

DRAWERS FULL OF TREASURES! This East Village treasure trove has a lot to offer, including 2.5 million buttons, dating from the 1860s to the 1960s. It is, apparently, one of the largest button collections in Manhattan. They also have about 10,000 cuff links, lots of vintage eye wear and designer fashions from the 1900s to 1990. Their impressive collection, as well as the assortment of vintage photographs, serves as a historic catalog, offering inspiration to designers and one of a kind treasures to customers.

Metropolis Vintage

With my very first video post I introduce you to Metropolis Vintage!

WOW. SHOES. This East Village establishment has more beautiful vintage shoes than I’ve ever seen in one place in my life! From Justin boots to oxfords to desert boots to boat shoes, they have tons of them and they’re all in great condition. They also have a lot of options for men—a rarity in the vintage world!

Oh! And they play great music. Streamed from an online radio station I think? You can hear it in the background of the video (when they’re not vacuuming!)
